I grew up playing many different sports including baseball, soccer, volleyball, basketball and rugby.

Djuro Petkovic, M.D. Board-Certified & Fellowship Trained Orthopedic Surgeon
Shoulder, Elbow and Sports Medicine Specialist
I am a Board Certified Orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow pathology. However, that is my job. I was born and raised in Chicago. I live in the neighborhood where I grew up. I went to school at Lincoln Park High School. I was raised in the Serbian Orthodox community in Chicago and still maintain ties to the culture. I grew up playing many different sports including baseball, soccer, volleyball, basketball and rugby. I have been an orthopedic patient and have undergone surgery so I do know what it is like to be on the other side of the relationship. I am married with 2 children and spend most of my time outside of work with them. I continue to stay active with exercise and yoga and enjoy hiking, paddle boarding and snowboarding when I can get away.
Professionally, I have served as a member of the American shoulder and Elbow Society working with multiple committees including the Abstract Review Panel, the Technology Committee, and the National Shoulder and Elbow Week Committee for Chicago. I am also a reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. Locally, I serve on the Research Advisory Committee and Headed the shoulder Section at Illinois Bone and Joint Institute.
Every patient has different needs, and every problem has unique characteristics. The same injury in an 18-year old athlete does not get the same treatment in an 80-year old grandmother. My job is to educate and discuss with the patient how we can responsibly get them back to their desired activity level.”
