The shoulder joint is a complex ball and socket joint. Like other joints, there is cartilage between the ball and socket that allows smooth motion. WHen that cartilage breaks down and the joint is no longer smooth, that is called arthritis. This can happen due to genetics, age, previous trauma, or inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis. Various treatments exist including:
